What's The Scope Regarding Parent/child/sibling Commands?

I know that the following commands are still apart of the ubot code:

 

• Element Parent: Returns the parent of an element

• Element Child: Returns the child of an element

• Element Sibling: Returns the sibling of an element

 

My question is two fold. First, I really have never understood the proper function of these commands because I've been able to do many things without them. Now the first question, are they going to be continued to be supported in ubout going forward?

 

Second, if they are going to be supported going forward, how the heck do you use them properly. Even the examples in the wiki don't make a lot of sense. The element parent actually does make sense in it's most simplistic form, but the element child - how do you select the 2 or last child and not just the first. Or the element sibling, why do you have to use the command twice to make it work?
